Thread Discussion - Drive Like You Stole It! (You did, you did steal it)

I am proposing a thread/game that’s been developed on our discord, and as I was describing my idea I realized I got pretty long winded, so now I’m drafting it up here for discussion. It’s fine to chat it up in discord, as I’m going to link to this thread anyway. This just felt easier to do than to block out my idea into multiple discord messages!

I propose the following, making use of the optional stat rule set:

Phase One -

Shadowrunners get a tip off that there is a cash transfer happening at a Moon Mall, so Shadowrunners file in trying to find it based off of limited information. It’s either all a hoax OR, when someone finds the/a “cash” briefcase, it’s actually a communication device that taps into the Mall speakers. In any case a “radio” station initiates a contest for a cash prize, that seems benign with the first couple of tests, before the last one abruptly calls for contestants to make their way to a Museum by any means necessary and clarifies it is a race (without specifying where it ends).

People can roll Grit, Savvy, or Muscle to determine how the quality of their mode of transportation ends up being to the next location (and describing how they acquire it based on which stat they chose). Then, they will make an additional check during transit against each other (I think this might be one where I would call for everyone to make the same type of check, so that people aren’t just choosing their best stat every post). I think this roll might be suited for Muscle.

Phase Two -

Shadowrunners (and maybe some poor shmucks who got accidentally caught up in this game) arrive at the Museum. At this point, people can choose a stat to roll depending on how they want to enter, and based on peoples choices I may modify how the environment responds to them (i.e., if everyone goes with a low aggro infiltration type entrance, security is going to be lax and easier to circumvent, if one or more go with a violent/forceful approach… you get the picture).

Once inside the Museum, the “Radio” announcer clarifies the situation: You must steal a historic moon buggy from its display, and get it out of the city to a Rendezvous Point, and receive a cash reward commensurate with the intact-ness of the artifact you’ve stolen, with a special bonus for the first one to arrive. However a person decides to execute on that, I will call for another common roll everyone has to make to determine level of success and any complications incurred for the group on their exit from city grounds. I think this roll might be suited for Savvy.

Phase Three -

As everyone crosses into the lunar wilderness, people will be able to choose whatever rolls they want to make against each other to gain an edge. Since this segment is a bit more linear (unless the previous rolls from the group have created complications that follow you out of the city…), this portion will have fewer variables and will focus on just arriving at the “finish line” at an unfinished gravity train tunnel. I think this roll might be suited for Grit.

Once the race is finished, and rank everyone based on their successes throughout the race, perhaps they will meet the benefactor for this chaos!
