  • very much lives through his mind and always puzzles over past
    experiences
  • a trickster and deal-maker
  • very spontaneous and uncertain in his moods and expressions
  • unorthodox charisma

  • secretly a bit insecure

Skills

  • Duke is backstreet ripperdoc. He trained as a vehicle mechanic and dropped out to focus on his passion when he turned 20
  • since he quickly went broke focusing on his passion he started working in a hospital in the emergency department,- he underwent medical training to the level of an emt nurse
  • he has good intuitive abilities
  • he is excellent at improvising tools and techniques because he has exceptional understanding of transferable concepts
  • in current day he is pretty decent at making unusual augmentations work with the individual persons body and health

Equipment

Possessions

  • chaotic toolkit to work on the move
  • lots of pharmaceutical drugs, stolen from his job at the hospital
  • vintage cigs
  • overdrawn credit cards
  • a small shack / clinic in a rough crevice of the moon

Cybernetics

  • Cybernetic eyes / a tweaked cheap implant line that allows for magnification, dark-sight and funky color effects / gets stuck on magenta frequently, slight flicker
  • Neuro port / run of the mill port for neural interfacing / connects to a variety of digital services / ad free version costs a monthly subscription
  • Lung replacement / cybernetic lung. Commercial model Duke hacked to allow full access to filtration settings / filtrates environmental toxins, programmed exception for nicotine
  • Various tissue and muscle replacements / Duke sports self-made replacement ware all over his body, mostly as a consequence for outfitting and removing many self-experimental prototypes / no special abilities / since he forgoes skin covers as a cost-cutting measure many of these areas are open and reveal the artificial fiber beneath. He has little sensation to touch there and the augmentations to his circulatory system lead to the unhealthy grey color of his remaining real skin
  • two cyberarms with integrated omni-tools / self-develop and shoddy looking, actually his masterpieces / individualized and precise tools integrated into hands and forearms to allow for everything a renegade ripper doc needs, from precision cutting of flesh to soldering and welding of metals / these are his pride and joy and rarely break down. IF they do he is in BIG TROUBLE.

Background

History

Duke Riviera was born on Celeste 7 in Artemis Landing to an American mother, Liv Riviera, who worked with an engineering agency. His father is an unknown donor and Duke was conceived by IVF. His family was exactly one person, his mother. His upbringing was middle class and he visited a good educational program but struggled with a learning disability that saw him put on medication at an early age. He developed a fascination with cyborgs around this time of his life.

He failed to reach the grades for pursuing the traditional route of studying medical cybernetics and went to train at a mechanic firm for space vehicles instead, which his mother considered to be a stable enough option, since Duke did not seem cutout for higher education.
He ground trough his apprenticeship for a while, but the work taxed and bored him and was too physically demanding for his slight and undermuscled frame. He developed some deep seated and enduring health issues and a perception of his body as weak and inadequate.

At 20 years old he dropped out of his training program to pursue self-improvement by self-augmentation. This lead to a falling out with his mother and to this day both of them are barely on speaking terms.
Cut off from financial support, Duke moved out from home and had to learn to take care of himself.
His first venture into working as a ripperdoc saw him run out of his neighbourhood by a botched client, and broke. He promised himself to only operate on himself until he mastered his craft. To gain medical experience he started working at a private hospital close to the Mohole.

He has since found success (but not wealth) working as an experimental Ripperdoc. He keeps to the rougher areas of town to avoid detection for working without a license.

Mechanics

Story Purpose

This guy is a bit lost and he can glom on to a character or faction to fill a medic / mechanic role. He’s social and mobile and can fix others up or develop and triall some experimental tech with other player characters.
