This is a proposal for a district connected to a placeholder corp, here called CHIRON. The corp is interchangeable with any other Corp in the setting, as long as they were involved in mining.
The vision for this district is to provide an area where government reach is limited and where communities thrive under the looming threat of corporate interference with their homes and lives.
It’s an area primed for mercs and fixers and characters connected to crime and black markets.
Chiron Bay
Chiron Bay is a district and mining sector in Celeste 7. Before the excavation site stopped operating its corp overlords built a corporate housing zone made up of three megatowers.
The mining corp CHIRON has been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle on earth and while they still own all land and real estate around the mining site, they are currently absent from their lunar acquisitions.
This is important: since the towers stand on private industrial lands, different laws apply compared to residential zones. The security police is absent (unless any special investigations or high level security threats require them to interfere).
Since the bay became ungoverned private property, the area is a legal twilight zone.
In the corporate’s absence, squatters, punks and displaced inner city residents have moved into the abandoned mega buildings that once housed the labour force of the company.
Mercs and gangs carved out ownership of the best apartments in bloody scuffles.
LOCATION: The Bay is outside of the city proper, but easily reached by tubes
Themes and plot devices:
- Contained anarchy: in this zone both might makes right and the rule of self-governed communities applies. Displaced people band together to carve out a life here, and ex-mercenaries and gangs defend their territory with violent means against each other
- The sleeping giant: CHIRON might refocus their attention on the mine or start selling their property at any time, leading to the forceful removal of the illegal tenants. The future is perpetually insecure
- Shadow blooms: shielded from the view of the law by the tower walls, a shadow market for illegal or half legal goods and services prospers largely undisturbed
